Bio ^FIRST-PERSON

Initially, my studies were centered on the sciences, running parallel to a compulsive drawing practice and drumming for a punk-funk ensemble. I later commenced a degree in Agricultural Engineering (two years) but ultimately left it to pursue Art, obtaining a degree in Design and New Media. I quickly entered the professional world, designing websites and interactive media. However, I continued to draw and paint across various supports, intervening in public space, and progressively incorporating visualization and sonification technologies into the mediation of the artistic experience—always striving to provoke interactions between human and non-human agents, between satellites and screens, and between shared perceptions and fictions. It was at this juncture that I decided to dedicate myself fully to artistic practice. I consider it the optimal locus for understanding our world, and for constructing enhanced co-existences within the networks (of care, inspiration, and collaboration) that we share with alterity.

That journey brought me to my PhD and to my current role as a professor of contemporary art at the Complutense University of Madrid, where I balance teaching with my practice-led research. Meanwhile, I'm studying Philosophy at UNED, riding my son to school on a Vespa, playing football on weekends... and yes, I'm back to playing the drums.

Primero enfoqué mis estudios hacia las ciencias mientras dibujaba compulsivamente y tocaba la batería en un grupo de punk-funk. Más tarde, comencé la carrera de Ingeniería Agrónoma (dos años) pero la dejé finalmente para estudiar Arte, licenciándome en Diseño y Nuevos Medios. Empecé pronto a trabajar diseñando páginas web e interactivos. Pero, aún así, seguía dibujando y pintando en todo tipo de soportes, interviniendo en el espacio público e incorporando, cada vez más, tecnologías de visualización y sonorización en la mediación de la experiencia artística... siempre intentando provocar interacciones entre humanos y no-humanos, entre satélites y pantallas, entre percepciones y ficciones compartidas. Fue entonces cuando decidí dedicarme a la práctica artística al 100%. Considero que es el mejor lugar para entender nuestro mundo y, también, para construir mejores convivencias dentro de las redes (de cuidados, inspiración y colaboración) que compartimos con la otredad.

Ese camino me ha llevado a doctorarme y a ejercer hoy como profesor de arte contemporáneo en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, donde puedo mantener activa mi práctica e investigación basada en arte. Mientras tanto, estudio Filosofía en la UNED, llevo a mi hijo al colegio en Vespa, jugamos al fútbol los fines de semana... y sí, he vuelto a tocar la batería.

Multidisciplinary artist, PhD in Contemporary Art (Extraordinary Doctorate Award 2021 by the Complutense University of Madrid), specialised in New Media Art at the MEDIA Lab of the University of Art and Design Helsinki (UIAH, Finland), and lecturer in Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the Faculty of Fine Arts UCM.

He is currently a member of the research group "Artistic Practices and New Forms of Knowledge" (UCM ID: 588). He also participates in the R&D projects "The Good Arts of Living with Others Through Design" (PID2024-158514NB-I00, UA / UCM) and "SafeARTECH: Safeguarding Digital, Experimental, and Technological Art of the Last Decades in Spain: Perspectives, Challenges, and Opportunities" (PID2024-161348OB-I00, UCM). Previously, he was part of the research team for the R&D projects "Energy Humanities: Energy and Sociocultural Imaginaries Between the Industrial Revolution and the Ecosocial Crisis" (PID2020-113272RA-I00, HUMENERGE, CSIC) and "Art and Technosphere" (UCM).

He develops his art-based research within the synergies between contemporary art + (post)nature + situated technologies, with a special interest in public interventions, ecocritical art, interspecies communication and data visualisation.

He has exhibited his work at the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art (South Korea), the Carrara Marble Museum and the Fondazione Pastificio Cerere in Rome (Italy), The Drawing Center (New York), the ABC Museum (Madrid), and Centre Arts Santa Mònica (Barcelona), among other international art institutions. He has also received awards and research/production grants, such as the Premi Ciutat de Palma Antoni Gelabert d’Arts Visuals in Mallorca (2024), the Tilling Roots and Seeds 2023–2025 research grant awarded by the European Union and the Quo Artis Foundation, the 2nd Artistic Research and Production Grant from the Espai Rambleta Contemporary Art Center in Valencia (2015), the 20th Premi Ciutat de Manacor d’Arts Plàstiques in Mallorca (2013), the artist residency grant at the Gyeonggi Creation Center in South Korea (2011), and the Visual Arts Grant at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome (2010), among other support for contemporary art research and creation.

Artista multidisciplinar, premio extraordinario de doctorado en Bellas Artes por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, especializado en New Media Art en el MEDIA Lab de la University of Art and Design Helsinki (UIAH, Finlandia), y docente en Grado y Máster en la Facultad de Bellas Artes UCM. 


Actualmente forma parte de los grupos investigación "Prácticas artísticas y nuevas formas de conocimiento" (id UCM: 588). Asimismo, participa en los proyectos I+D "Las buenas artes de vivir con las otras a través del diseño" (PID2024-158514NB-I00, UA / UCM) y "SafeARTECH: Salvaguardia del arte digital, experimental y tecnológico de las últimas décadas en España: perspectivas, retos y oportunidades" (PID2024-161348OB-I00, UCM). Anteriormente formó parte del equipo de investigación de los proyectos I+D "Humanidades energéticas: Energía e imaginarios socioculturales entre la revolución industrial y la crisis ecosocial" (PID2020-113272RA-I00, HUMENERGE, CSIC) y "Arte y Tecnosfera" (UCM).

Desarrolla su investigación basada en arte en el ámbito de las sinergias entre arte contemporáneo + (post)naturaleza + tecnologías situadas, con especial interés en las intervenciones públicas, el arte ecocrítico, la comunicación interespecies y la visualización de datos.

Ha expuesto su obra en el Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art (Corea del Sur), el Museo del Mármol de Carrara y la Fondazione Pastificio Cerere de Roma (Italia), The Drawing Center (New York), o el Museo ABC (Madrid) y el Centre Arts Santa Mònica (Barcelona), entre otras instituciones artísticas internacionales. También ha obtenido premios y becas de investigación y producción como el Premi Ciutat de Palma Antoni Gelabert d’Arts Visuals en Mallorca (2024), la Beca de investigación Tilling Roots and Seeds 2023-2025 concedida por la Unión Europea y la Fundación Quo Artis, la II Beca de Investigación y Producción artística del Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Espai Rambleta en Valencia (2015), el XX Premi Ciutat de Manacor dʼArts Plàstiques en Mallorca (2013), la Beca de investigación en residecia en el Gyeonggi Creation Center en Gyeonggi-do en Ansan-si, Corea del Sur (2011), o la Beca de Artes Plásticas de la Real Academia de España en Roma (2010), entre otros apoyos a la investigación y producción en arte contemporáneo.
